Name: Captain (Klaus) Englehorn
Age: 35
Appearance: Crystal blue-green eyes, close-cropped blond hair, although it usually grows out into a slightly shaggier version while on his travels. Same with his facial hair-- he never tries much harder than is minimally necessary to keep a full beard from growing, so he always has at LEAST a few day's stubble on his face, giving him a bit of a rugged look. Body type is tall, but not overly so: he's big enough to be commanding, demanding respect and obedience, but not tall enough to look at any time awkward or gangly. He's well muscled from many years of wild-animal trapping and keeping a ship in working order. He typically dresses in weather-worn trowsers and jeans, and well-worn shirts and heavy coats, often in layers. As he's almost always on the ship, his clothing is accordingly heavy and comfortable, with firm rubber-soled boots.
Personality: Englehorn is closed and cool, even as far as ship's captains go. He rarely speaks with his crew, except to give curt orders. When he does speak with them, it's only in certain occasions that warrant it, otherwise he trusts his crew to do as he expects of them. He's stubborn, persistant, but not foolhardy; he knows a losing fight when he sees it, and he's not too proud to get out of a bad situation. He dosen't open up considerably around his friends, either, but is considerably more warm around those he could consider as friends. However, there aren't many of them around anymore: due to his short childhood, Klaus finds it hard to connect with others outside of a purely professional relationship, and therefore comes across as more cold and closed than he actually is.
Strengths: Highly intelligent and trained in exotic animal trapping as well as sea-manship, sea-wise, commanding, strong, cool-headed under panic, trained in firearms, loyal, and a natural-born leader.
Weaknesses: Demanding of compliance, used to having his commands obeyed, closed, comes across as too cold. Unwilling to take risks in the name of adventure, unwilling to take foolhardy risks in general, especially at the risk of his ship and crew; overly responsible.
Personal History: Klaus Englehorn was born to a poor German peasant family, with very little hope for any change in his life. However, when he was 12, he was accepted onto a fish trawler as a cabin boy, and the captain's personal apprentice. Klaus had always been fascinated by the sea, and the apprenticeship was a breath of fresh air for the young boy. He learned quickly and eagerly, and soon became a crewmember on the same ship, then first mate, before the captain grew too old to sail. He joined up on an exotic animal-hunting expedition ship next, barely 18 years old, and learned how to track and trap wild animals for sale. By the time he was 27, he had saved up enough money to buy his own ship, the junker SS Venture, and fixed it up, a lot of it by himself. He found a loyal crew from previous expeditions he'd been on, and set out for Africa. Many trips to various locales later, he found himself in the New York port, needing a job, when an offer from a well-known film company came in. The rest is history!
